Busy Bridge Road has a new kid on the block and if their opening week was anything to go by, Reunion and Co. has indeed reunited the area with great food and coffee.
The creation of two business partners, Reunion and Co. is a complete rejuvenation of what was previously a print and graphics on a prime street corner location. A lot of thought has been put into the interior design which combines elements from the buildings historic past, with stained glass segments on the front window and the ornate Victorian era-style ceiling, and modern design techniques with the sleek timber furniture, hanging lightbulbs and exposed beams. Hanging basket plants add a touch nature to the mix. The kitchen has the appearance of a concrete slab structure built within the room, completing the vintage home-cross-industrial feel.
With a focus of local and ethical farming, the seasonal food menu is an eclectic mix of typical breakfast and lunch dishes with some exciting creative touches. Highlights include the House cured trout congo, kipflers, beetroot relish and goats curd with eggs on eggs, the Bircher muesli soaked in coconut milk, poached pear, pistachio, strawberry and lemon balm and the Pressed lamb shoulder on house made flatbread, fennel, barley, beetroot relish and spiced labna. There is also a selection of bagels on offer to add an extra element of choice.
On this visit I had the Free range pulled pork brioche roll with Asian slaw and chilli jam. To be honest, I didn’t notice the words chilli jam when ordering and was pleasantly surprised with the resulting gentle spice kick after biting into the well toasted bun. Not too spicy, just enough to be that special something that makes a dish. The pulled pork was tender and juicy and the carrot and red cabbage slaw completed what was a great lunch meal.
Coffee is a blend from Allpress with soy and almond milk available. Also on offer is a range of teas, juices, smoothies and coconut water. There is also a takeaway window around the corner in Neptune Street to cater for those who just want to grab a coffee and go.
Reunion and Co. is an exciting new addition to the bustling Bridge Road precinct and is one to watch.
