Long Story Short

Long Story Short

There’s no cutting a long story short when you can skip straight to chapter two. Previously located in the back streets of Richmond, Long Story Short have completely evolved into something new with their relaunched Port Melbourne home.

Gone is the former cosy and intimate, dimly-lit setting hiding at the base of an apartment complex, the cafe now boasts a large, open space surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows at their new street corner location. The design takes on Scandinavian minimalist elements with white walls, light timber furnishings and tiled floor. Running along part of one wall is the bar and kitchen with the dining area filling the rest of the space. Seating is a mixture of small tables, a couple of large communal tables and bar seating along one of the street-facing windows. A small alcove with some more small tables offers a small touch of intimacy.

The food menu is built around all day dining with a range of breakfast and lunch offerings that have a slight Asian fusion influence. Highlights include the matcha smoothie bowl, feta scrambled duck eggs, glass noodle salad, fish tacos and soft shell crab burger.
The fish tacos are crumbed with crushed pistachio and filled with purple cabbage, coriander, minor, corn, jalapeños, sour cream and lime mayo which results in a perfectly balanced combination of spice, sweet, cream and crunch.

Coffee is a blend and single origins by Proud Mary and available as espresso or filter. There is also a tasting flight of rotating guest single origins and some alternative hot drinks which include matcha and turmeric lattes. A range of teas, juices and smoothies are on offer. In a surprise twist, there’s also beer, wine and cocktails.
