Magic on Ferrars is one of those local neighbourhood gems, tucked away from the main drag of South Melbourne on Ferrars St. Situated on a street corner this relatively unassuming cafe with just a sign in the window and a blackboard outside can be easily missed. Seating is modest with maybe half a dozen tables against a wall inside and a few more outside.
The menu consists of the usual Melbourne breakfast and brunch affairs with a focus on organic and locally sourced ingredients. There is also a selection of baguettes and a burger of the day, today’s was a chicken breast with brie, rocket, tomato and Spanish onion on a brioche bun. For some reason I get very excited over melted brie on burgers, something I believe is quite underused, so Magic definitely ticked the right boxes. Table water was served in a cute metal mug that you’d find back in the date at school camps.
Coffee options were a bit of a surprise from a small neighbourhood cafe with range of espresso, filter and cold drip options from St Ali.
The staff are a bit quirky and fun, definitely pop in if you’re in the area and want to escape for a bit.
