Poland was the next logical country heading south after Lithuania. I got off the night train to be greeted with masses of people, banners and guards. It just so happened that this was the day of the funeral service for the late Polish president and his wife who were killed, along with other government officials, in a plane crash. At one point during the day there was a moment of 5 minutes silence when everyone in the streets just stopped. Cars stopped. Everything stopped. And then progressively emergency services around the city started turning on their sirens. Words cannot describe how this felt. Afterwards, I start being pushed through a crowd into a line of some sort. Next thing I know, I’m inside the presidential palace laying flowers in front of the coffins. Wow.
